Ransomware, how to protect yourself from being one of its’ victims;

Ransomware, how to protect yourself from being one of its’ victims;
As you may be aware, Ransomware is rampant on the Internet. (Hacking, then holding files, photos and critical records for ransom).
Hackers bait users by getting them to click on an infected email or open an attachment and then, BOOM!  Your files are encrypted (scrambled) and unable to be opened, read or be used.  You are then propositioned to pay a ransom in Bit Coins, (an untraceable method of payment on the Internet) to have those files “released” via an unencryption code.
This is nothing more than Stage Coach Robbery in modern times!
Last year’s report of Ransomware to business entities was 2,453 reporting a total loss of $24.1 million dollars.  You may have seen the report on the National News about 1 month ago of a Hospital (MedStar Health Inc.) with a sophisticated Computer Network and an IT Department who had been hacked by Ransomware and paid an undisclosed amount of money to get their patient and business files back.
How do you protect yourself from Ransomware?
  • Make safe and secure back-ups of your data.  (Do not keep the back-up source connected to your computer).
  • Ask us about an Anti Virus/Internet Security Software that protects you from this Krypto-Locker Virus (or variant of it) and we will have a very frank and informative discussion with you.
  • If attacked, immediately shut your system down and call us 1300637326. We may be able to shut the virus down before it infects all of your files. Do not open your files to see if they have been infected, this will allow the virus to infect them.
Happy Computing!
